Zane Carney Final FREE Concert Of The Summer in NYC! Tuesday, June 26th @ The Living Room

First off, long time no speak! I only e-mail this list about once or twice a year so how are the kids, what's the latest job like and do you love your new place?!

Second off, Tuesday, June 26th at 11pm I'll be playing a solo show at The Living Room in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and it will most likely be my last live show of the summer/year. I’m gonna be taking time off in hopes of finding the best way to release an album of my own original music, but more on that later...

I'm so excited about how this whole solo project is shaping up...it's starting to feel like Chet Baker meets Esperanza Spaulding meets Roy Buchanan with a crapload of all the other things I do as a guitarist in CARNEY as a good benchmark for where things are starting to head...

Speaking of which, at my June 26th show at The Living Room I'm going to be selling a 4 song EP that will include 3 ORIGINAL guitar compositions! This is the first time I'll be getting ANY of my music into people's hands and these exact recordings (as recorded by Chris Rondinella at Heritage Recording Company in Burbank and Mastered by Gavin Lurssen) will be showing up on my debut album whenever it comes out! I won't be selling these online or anywhere else though, so I'll have to see you at this (potentially) final show of the year to get you one...

With that in mind, I’d love to share this night of live music with you and your friends! Here are the details and if you know someone who lives in the city feel free to send 'em my way - I'll do my best to make it worth their while ;-)

Howdy freakin' doo! It's been a long time since I've sent a blast like this too all of you but I wanted to give some quick updates in the world of CARNEY and in my own musical endeavors!

You probably already know that our band CARNEY moved to NYC last year to work on Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark - yes, that Spider-Man, the one with the falls and the script changes and the fully pantless pit orchestra members...wait, one of those things is wrong but I can't remember which cause of jet lag...think it's number two...

Also, you might have heard that my brother Reeve is going to be starring as Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic that begins filming this spring! Can't think of a better person to play that role...

Anywho, because we're working so much in NYC I decided it was time to get my Solo Guitar Career going! I've been so fortunate to play with so many wonderful people in my life but I'm really excited about venturing out on my own and seeing what sort of things happen :-) Some of it will be in the jazz vein, some of it in the old world blues/rock vein, most of it will involve just one guitar, a good amount of pedals and hopefully some new ideas ;-)

So, I'm taking a three week break from Spidey to be in California and while I'm here (yes, I'm already here!) I'll be putting down ideas for my debut guitar record, playing solo shows up and down the coast and recording a jazz combo record with John Daversa! So excited about all of the new things on the horizon but most stoked about really getting my solo guitar stuff of the ground - and what better way to do that than by playing a bunch of live shows!

Here's info for my tour dates and links to some new YouTube videos to keep everyone abreast to what's going on! And, if you're a fan of CARNEY or know someone who is please let them know that even though CARNEY won't be able to make it to the West Coast for a long while, I'm in California and would love to give them at least a piece of CARNEY love while I'm here by having them/you at my shows!

A Note from Zane | News

Long time no write!

Lots going on in the Carney world so let's get right down to it:

First off, we've moved from New York City to the Republic of Georgia! Those of you who have read all of my updates will remember that our single "Love Me Chase Me" was not only #1 in the Republic of Georgia for the past 2 years, but that also was transposed down a minor third so it could be made the bridge of their national anthem! We're not only honored, we're also quite confused, but so goes show business!

Second off, I wish that were true cause it would be equal parts bizarre and humbling…

Third off, here's the real stuff:

As many of you already know, Reeve has been quite busy the past few months with an American Idol performance, Tony Award Performance and having to hand post EVERY "Rise Above Single" poster in the country with his face on it himself. The rest of us in CARNEY have been a little bit busy too seeing as how we just discovered that since day 1 of our Spider-Man journey we have yet to call out of a performance (over 200 since November) or rehearsal (I think we're at 5 or 6 gajillion?)

Anywho, the time has finally come for CARNEY to be at the forefront of our minds and in preparation of opening for U2/Arcade Fire in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada on July 30th, CARNEY is performing in NYC at The Bowery Ballroom on July 25th, 2011! We were supposed to be doing many more concerts in the city starting at the beginning of the year but we were a little held up with Spider-Man as you probably have heard from your local taxi/twitter feed/Conan O'Brien clip ;-)

But, now the Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark has opened, we in CARNEY have gotten right back into band rehearsals - it's hard to express how stoked this makes all of us…seriously, you have no idea - we're writing new songs, discovering that we don't suck at our instruments as much as we thought we would after playing the same gosh darn (but wonderful!) music for most of the past year, and have already begun reminiscing on how great it will be to eat some greasy Waffle House food after getting little to no sleep next time we go on the road…

The last time the band played together was VALENTINE'S DAY! Those 4 months were about 6-8 times longer than we've EVER gone as a band without even rehearsing and let me tell you, absence absolutely made the heart grow fonder - can't wait to share all of our bottled up energy with you at The Bowery Ballroom…

Oh, and extra special featured guest Paris Carney will be opening for us! If you get there early to see her you'll probably find us scattered throughout the audience...

(Santa Monica, CA) Music From SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will be released on June 14^th by Interscope Records. With 14 new songs co-written by Bono and The Edge for the Broadway production, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, the album is produced by Steve Lillywhite. Songs are performed by the cast including Reeve Carney in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Jennifer Damiano in the role of Mary Jane, T.V. Carpio as Arachne and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin, with contributions from Bono and The Edge and music performed by the production’s twenty member strong orchestra. The release date coincides with the opening night (June 14^th) of the Broadway show.

Scheduled for release today is the first single, “Rise Above 1” performed by Reeve Carney featuring Bono and The Edge, produced by Alex Da Kid. Following its release this morning to radio and internet media, “Rise Above 1” will go up for sale digitally at 5:00 p.m. (PT) / 8:00 p.m. (ET).

Carney is the frontman (on lead vocals and guitar) of the Los Angeles-based rock band Carney. His band-mates, Zane Carney (guitar), Jon Epcar (drums), and Aiden Moore (bass), perform nightly with the Broadway orchestra of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, the most ambitious production ever undertaken on Broadway, is currently in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre on West 43^rd Street. Lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris recently announced that Philip William McKinley, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Chase Brock have joined the creative team to help implement new staging, assist with book rewrites, and create additional choreography, respectively. McKinley has vast experience directing technically complex productions on Broadway and beyond. Aguirre-Sacasa is an acclaimed playwright, screenwriter (Big Love) and a noted writer of Spider-Man comic books. Brock is an innovative choreographer experienced with large Broadway shows.

Inspired by over 40 years of Marvel comic books, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek suddenly endowed with incredible powers soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains put both his physical strength and strength of character to the test.

Bio

Zane Carney is a native New Yorker who moved to LA as a child to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a child-actor-who-quits-acting-before-his-first-barmitzvah (and he's not even Jewish!) In August of 2010 though, he moved back to NY with his band Carney (Interscope) as they joined the production of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway. Zane's brother Reeve is playing the title role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man while bandmates Aiden Moore and Jon Epcar join him in the Pit Orchestra that features music by U2's Bono and The Edge. Two months ago Zane performed a sold out show at Rockwood's Stage 2 with Soul Puppet's Stephan Hovsepian - a night some endearingly refer to as "relatively good music, if you're into that sort of thing" - and he's hoping to bring something similar on May 29th at 9:30pm in a fully exposed solo show. There will be singing, improvising and lots of guitar.

CARNEY @ Bowery Ballroom in NYC Valentine's Day - Monday, February 14th!

Hello everyone! It's been such a long time since I've sent out one of these personal messages and there's lots of catching up to do :-)

For those of you that haven't heard yet, the entire Carney band moved to NYC to perform in Julie Taymor/U2's production of Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark on Broadway! Julie came to one of our gigs in NYC in 2007 and shortly thereafter cast Reeve as Peter Parker/Spiderman. About a year later, the rest of Carney joined as the core of the rhythm section for the show and it's been an amazing ride to say the least :-) From working personally with Bono and Edge to being welcomed by such a warm, genuine and outrageously-talented cast and crew, it's been an unbelievable experience that has already taught us so much about art, life and how-to-manage-90-hour-work-weeks-not-called-touring ;-)

Because of all this amazing craziness though, we haven't been able to play a CARNEY show in over 4 months! Not playing a show for that amount of time is to CARNEY as not seeing your boyfriend/girlfriend as he/she travels with his/her family for the summer while you play way too much XBOX is to you. The point is, we've been DYING to play our music and we can't wait to kiss our instruments...or, maybe I confused the analogy with reality..no, we might actually kiss our instruments - we are that restless with anticipation :-)

We had planned on playing the first Carney show of 2011 on Valentine's Day at Mercury Lounge but apparently we sold all 250 tickets midway through January (pretty freakin' sweet, right?!) So, we decided to move to a bigger venue and kick off our 2011 Carney-in-NYC-year at The Bowery Ballroom! Apparently all of the press Reeve has been doing has been paying off - He even got recognized while he was trying on a pair of skin tight women's corduroys at Lane Bryant the other day! I wish that last sentence were true...it was actually at Filene's Basement. Wow, I wish that were true as well...it was actually at Baby Gap.

Anywho, those of you that know our band even in the slightest know that we are all about playing live so we can't wait to play this show. Oh, and in a little bit of extra news WE ARE OPENING FOR FREAKING U2 IN JULY! No Joke - the lineup is Carney, Arcade Fire, U2 in New Brunswick, Canada at the final concert of U2's 360º tour! It's gonna be in front of 80,000ish people and we are beyond stoked. There are more updates in the Carney world that are getting finalized too including more recordings and we can't wait to dive in to all this good stuff...

Broadway.com: Reeve Carney on the Pressure and Pleasure of Starring in Spider-Man

Making the Band: Carney eventually formed an eponomous band alongside his brother Zane, bass player Aiden Moore and drummer Jon Epcar, all of whom appear onstage in the Spider-Man band. “My music is very visceral,” he explains. “When I’m performing, it’s all about the intensity and passion.” While Carney is pleased to have moved into acting in Taymor's Tempest film (as Ferdinand) and now as Spidey, he admits he’ll miss traveling across the country with his band. “It’s my favorite place," he says of the road. "I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The freedom you feel when you’re out there—there’s nothing like it.” Carney adds that he's quite the prankster while touring, but is hesitant to reveal his best gag. “Let’s just say it involved a microwave, a pound and a half of Hershey’s chocolate and a pair of medium-size boxers. They still don’t know it was me.” (Sorry Reeve, secret’s out!)
