Invites fans to join marathon and run with her team

FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE, January 17, 2012 - Nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Sheryl Crow has announced that she is encouraging fans to run with her in this year’s Country Music ½ Marathon.

As members of ‘Team Sheryl Crow’, participants will also raise funds earmarked for New Hope Academy through its Powered by Hope fundraising arm. Last December, Crow gave two benefit concerts for the school located in Franklin, TN. A third concert, added after the first two sold out within six minutes, also sold out.

“This is a great way to help others while doing something healthy for yourself,” commented Crow. “It will be challenging, so I’ll be counting on my fans to cheer me on. And I’m excited about getting to run the Country Music Marathon with a team of my fans, while supporting a great school.”

Members of ‘Team Sheryl Crow’ will receive a number of perks including admission to the exclusive pre-race Team Sheryl Crow VIP meet and greet for each runner/walker plus a guest, a special gift bag and signature gear, limited edition team jersey, a chance to attend a private luncheon with Crow the day before the race, and access to the VIP Powered by Hope finish line party on race day.

“Local Team Sheryl Crow members will be able to train with our Nashville training group and out-of-town participants can follow along on their own with the plan provided by the nationally renowned Galloway Group,” said Mitch White, Powered by Hope director. “Our 16-week plan is long enough to cement new habits that will stay with participants long after race day.”

White said participants will also receive continual motivations through weekly e-blasts plus be able to connect with fellow team members, including Crow through Facebook and Twitter. The 12th Annual Sheryl Crow Fan Forum Birthday Drive!

Every year for the past ELEVEN years, the members of the Sheryl Crow Fan Forum have gotten together to give Sheryl a special gift for her birthday on February 11. The idea to do this originated with a fan, and involves raising money for a charity Sheryl has supported personally; the Delta Children’s Home in Kennett, Missouri, Sheryl’s hometown. The Fan Forum started the Birthday Drive in 2001, donates gifts and prizes for, and operates the drive. This is a chance to help some special and say "Happy Birthday" to Sheryl at the same time. Last year, $15,000 was donated by Sheryl's fans. Over $130,000 has been donated since 2001.

Due to technical reasons, the Fan Forum was closed in 2011, but the Fan Forum Birthday Drive lives on! And the Grand Prize is the best yet : a Fender '72 Re-Issue Telecaster Custom, brand new and with a PERSONALIZED for the winner autograph by Sheryl herself!

The Delta Children's Home was founded in 1966. DCH consists of two homes (one for girls, one for boys) that provide temporary foster care for children that are removed from their home by the court system or who need shelter for other reasons (family problems, etc.). Sheryl Crow to Play Two Nights at The Franklin Theatre, Benefiting New Hope Academy

Tickets Go On Sale Friday, November 4 at 10 a.m.

Nine-time Grammy Award Winning Artist and Nashville resident Sheryl Crow will perform two benefit concerts at the Franklin Theater in Franklin, Tennessee on December 2nd and 3rd, 2011. The shows will benefit the New Hope Academy, a unique children's school, also located in Franklin. The historic Franklin Theatre, which seats only 300, will provide a wonderfully intimate setting in which to see Ms. Crow, who typically performs at venues for thousands of fans. Profits raised from the event will be used to provide scholarships to the school for children with financial hardships.

"I feel so privileged to assist the New Hope Academy, in this small way, in furthering their mission and vision," said Sheryl Crow. "The educational excellence they provide, to a student body nearly half of which is comprised of children from low income families is so very special. And I'm looking forward to playing at the beautiful Franklin Theatre, it will feel like I'm playing for a small group of friends….and there will probably be a few in the crowd!"

The performances will include holiday songs as well as popular favorites from Crow's extensive catalog of hits.

New Hope Academy is made up of students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, more than 60 percent of whom receive scholarships or other financial assistance from the school. The school serves more than 130 local families. 27 percent of New Hope students come from single-parent households, and 41 percent are minorities. "We at New Hope Academy are so grateful to Sheryl for this opportunity to raise funds for our school and raise awareness about the Christ-centered education we provide in this community," said Headmaster Stuart Tutler.

Originally built in 1937, the Franklin Theatre re-opened to the public on June 3, 2011 following a multi-year, multi-million-dollar restoration. The Main Street landmark is owned and operated by the nonprofit Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County. “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Sheryl to our stage," said Sara Preston, Program Director of the Franklin Theatre. "These concerts fit perfectly within our mission: to host world-class live music, and to support our local community. We are delighted that Sheryl chose to partner with us in supporting her cause."

Sheryl's Mercedes Raises $130,000 For Joplin Schools at Pebble Beach Auction | News

News release from the Community Foundation of The Ozarks: The auction of Sheryl Crow’s vintage Mercedes convertible raised $130,000 in net proceeds for the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Sunday evening.

The auction proceeds exceeded the estimated value of $50,000 to $80,000 for the 1959 white Mercedes 190 SL. In addition to the vehicle, she generously included a Signature Sheryl Crow Gibson guitar, a pair of concert tickets and a photo opportunity with the winning bidder as part of the package.

Crow said her background as a teacher and her personal interest in public education led her to select Joplin schools as the beneficiary of the proceeds for the car, which was auctioned by Gooding & Company as part of its prestigious, annual Pebble Beach Auctions every August, coinciding with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

“I really do believe the future of this country is our kids being educated to the fullest,” Crow said. "I wanted to do something meaningful to help the school system because that will be so integral to Joplin's recovery in the years to come."

The Joplin Schools Recovery Fund is one of 21 funds established at the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and its largest affiliate, the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri, designated for various aspects of the community’s recovery from the May 22 tornado. The total of the funds is now more than $3.85 million.

"The road to recovery in the Joplin Schools is going to be a long one,” Joplin Schools Superintendent Dr. C.J. Huff said. “This generous donation will help us ensure our children have the tools and resources they need to be successful in school as we continue our journey towards a brighter future for our kids and community.

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks is a regional public foundation with assets of about $180 million in more than 2,000 funds. The CFO’s network includes donors, 43 regional affiliate foundations, more than 400 non-profit agency partners and about 100 schools across central and southern Missouri.

Kid Rock announces today second leg of his “BORN FREE” tour that comes in support of his most recent release, “BORN FREE.” The second leg of the tour, featuring Sheryl Crow, will kick off July 2nd in Cincinnati and cross the country hitting amphitheaters over the span of 30 shows. More dates are expected to be announced as well. The dates come on the heels of Kid Rock’s new single “Collide”, which features Sheryl Crow, impacting radio and video outlets. Basil and Apple–Marinated Organic Chicken (Serves 4)

SHERYL: I’m sure a number of you have seen the many different programs and documentaries depicting the life of commercially raised chickens. It is horrifying to me to think that the inhumane treatment of these animals would ever be a part of our dining experience, and so we make every attempt to eat free-range chicken that is steroid free. Since I started eating free-range, organic chicken, I can’t imagine going back to “supermarket birds.” And it really matters to me that my two boys will grow up knowing the difference intrinsically, but also that they will not be ingesting the kinds of chemicals that these birds are shot up with to make them grow bigger faster. That is the philosophy I embrace across the board when it comes to meat, in general. Besides, there is far more flavor and far less fat in these than in other chickens.

Chuck serves this dish with baked polenta, which is warm, firm, and comforting in the winter and mingles deliciously with the chicken juices, the Apple-Fennel Slaw, and the Haricots Verts Salad. A full meal on a plate where every element is meant for the other. Thanks, Chuck, for these amazing flavors and textures.

Chicken
• 1 ½ cups apple juice, preferably organic
• 2 tablespoons basil pesto, homemade or store-bought
• Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 4 good-size boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, preferably organic and free-range
Polenta
• 1 ½ tablespoons canola oil, preferably expeller-pressed
• ½ medium yellow onion, diced
• 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
• ½ cup white wine
• 3 cups vegetable stock, homemade or store-bought
• 1 cup nonfat milk
• 1 ½ cups uncooked polenta (preferably not instant)
• 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
• 1 tablespoon chopped flat-leaf parsley
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil leaves
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
• Canola oil, preferably expeller-pressed

Cider gravy
• 1 ½ tablespoons canola oil, preferably expeller-pressed
• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 1 ½ cups organic apple cider
• Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

1. To marinate the chicken: In a large zipped plastic bag, combine the apple juice and pesto and season to taste with salt and pepper. Add the chicken breasts and move them around in the bag to coat well with the marinade. Expel the air from the bag and zip it closed. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 12 hours. Turn the bag every 2 hours or so to ensure the chicken is evenly covered. (Alternatively, marinate the chicken in a shallow, nonreactive dish, turning the chicken several times to ensure it’s coated evenly. Keep the dish covered and in the refrigerator.)

2. To make the polenta: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly oil the foil.

3. In a good-size saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat and when hot, sauté the onion and garlic for 2 to 3 minutes or until the onion softens. Take care the garlic does not burn. Add the wine, bring to a boil, and cook at the boil for 6 to 8 minutes or until the wine reduces by half.

4. Add the stock and milk and bring to a rapid simmer. Watch carefully so that the liquid does not boil over and adjust the heat up or down to maintain the simmer.

5. With the liquid simmering, slowly add the polenta, whisking as you do. When all is added, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring almost constantly, for 10 to 12 minutes or until the polenta is soft and cooked through.

6. Remove polenta from heat and fold in the olive oil, parsley, basil, and oregano.

7. Pour the polenta onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly over the pan so that the polenta is about 1/2-inch thick. Set aside to cool completely.

On February 24th President Obama and Mrs. Obama will host “The Motown Sound: In Performance at the White House” in the East Room of the White House in celebration of Black History Month and the legacy of Motown, the distinctive soul-infused pop music sound, style and presentation that was born in Detroit and embodied by the Motown Records label. The evening will include program host Jamie Foxx and performances by Foxx, Natasha Bedingfield, Sheryl Crow, the group Gloriana, Nick Jonas, Ledisi, John Legend, Amber Riley, Smokey Robinson, Mark Salling, Seal and Jordin Sparks. The sixty-minute television special, part of the Emmy Award-nominated PBS “In Performance at the White House” series, will premiere Tuesday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET on PBS stations nationwide. The program will also be broadcast on March 11 via the American Forces Network to American service men and women and civilians at U.S. Department of Defense locations around the world.

Every year the core of Sheryl's website based Fan Forum (headed by Moderator Gregg Dempsey) have a virtual get together and acknowledge Sheryl's birthday by running the "Birthday Drive." This consists of the gathering of donations to benefit the Kennett, MO based Delta Children's Home for the chance to a win a piece of Sheryl related paraphernalia endorsed by her very own hand. This year an autographed Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster generated a grand total of $14,246 (which actually beat the 2010 figure) and for that Sheryl is eternally grateful...

Mom’s Reconstructed Chili Recipe:

CHUCK: I learned to make this big-and-bold-tasting chili from my mom, who made it often when we were kids. Both my mom’s family and my dad’s made this chili, and so it’s no surprise that my sister, Jackie, and I follow the tradition now that we are grown. Of course, when we were young, Mom and Dad made it with beef, but because I am a vegetarian and Sheryl likes to eat as healthfully as possible, I switched out the beef and substituted ground soy. Guess what? You can hardly tell the difference. Made with soy, the chili tastes just as robust and intense as beef-based chili. Serves 6-8.

1 tablespoon canola oil, preferably expeller-pressed
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 pound ground soy burger alternative
2 teaspoons cumin
1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika, optional
½ teaspoon dried red chili flakes
One 12-ounce can light beer, at room temperature
1 ½ tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
Two 14- to 15-ounce cans chili hot beans with can juices, preferably organic
Two 14- to 15-ounce cans pinto beans, preferably organic, drained
Two 14- to 15-ounce cans fire roasted diced tomatoes, preferably organic
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons dried oregano
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Fat-free saltines or cornbread for serving, optional
Hot pepper sauce, for serving, optional

In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat and when hot, sauté the onion and garlic for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the ground soy and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up the soy further and encourage even cooking. Add cumin, chili powder, paprika, and chili flakes and continue to cook, stirring, until the spices are slightly toasted and fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes.
Using a wooden spoon to prevent sticking, stir in half of the beer and the soy sauce. Add the rest of the beer and stir to mix.
Add the chili hot beans, pinto beans, tomatoes, and 1 cup of water and mix well. Add the bay leaves and oregano and stir to mix.
Bring the chili to a low boil over medium-high heat and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes or so until the stew is well blended. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently until cooked through, 30 to 40 minutes, until the flavors blend. Stir the chili occasionally during cooking. Adjust the heat up or down to maintain a simmer. Serve hot, with crumbled saltines or cornbread, and some extra hot sauce, if desired.

The 12 song set will be available exclusively at Target now and will feature an original song she wrote called “There Is A Star That Shines Tonight” as well as the song “Long Road Home” which appears on her recently released album 100 Miles From Memphis.

In true Sheryl-style, the holiday album features a mixture of rockin’ traditional songs, funky soul, blues and even a little gospel. Along with Crow’s first original Christmas song, fans will also hear traditional tunes including “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” “The Christmas Song,” “White Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” “The Bells of St. Mary’s,” “Blue Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” “There Is A Star That Shines Tonight,” “Hello My Friend Hello” and ““All Through the Night.”
