Santa Monica, CA, September 2, 2009--MTV has tapped hip-hop’s newest challenger, Wale and the legendary go-go band UCB as the official house band for the 2009 VMAs, providing the night’s soundtrack for the hottest music awards show this year. Not only will Wale perform his new hit single “World Tour,” but he will also collaborate with artists including The All-American Rejects, Pitbull and 3OH!3 while putting his own unique spin on some of the biggest songs of the year.

"This is a monumental point in my career," says Wale. "As an unknown artist, it was an honor for me to perform with Mark Ronson at the 2007 VMAs. This year, UCB and I, will be adding an extra element to the VMAs as we bring our signature sound of go-go music to the stage."

As the anticipation continues to build and a new release date for Attention Deficit (Allido/Interscope) has been set for October 20^th, Wale readies the release of his second single "World Tour" featuring Jazmine Sullivan. As “World Tour” rides the success of first single “Chillin,’” which heavily impacted airwaves this spring, the go-go infused banger, “Pretty Girls” featuring Gucci Mane, has become this summer’s ultimate club anthem.

Santa Monica, CA, July 7, 2009--Of this time yet unafraid to move beyond this moment, rugged yet introspective, Wale--hip-hop’s newest sensation and the first D.C. rapper to gain national attention in more than a decade--demands to be heard with his debut album Attention: Deficit (Allido/Interscope), releasing September 22, 2009. With its initial single, “Chillin’” featuring Lady Gaga, gaining spins on Rhythmic Radio, boosted by a video from Grammy-nominated director Chris Robinson, Attention: Deficit catapults Wale to hip-hop’s center stage.

The 24-year-old D.C.-born son of Nigerian immigrants, Wale has previously issued a series of acclaimed, go-go/rap mash-up mixtapes that gained notice and airplay in the DMV (D.C.-Maryland-Virginia) and beyond. In 2007 super producer Mark Ronson--responsible for new luminaries such as Amy Winehouse-- began playing Wale’s “Good Girls” on his East Village radio show. Soon after, Ronson added Wale to a remix of Lily Allen’s bubbly pop record “Smile” and recruited him for a U.K. tour for his latest album. Wale also turned “D.A.N.C.E.” from French electro-house stars Justice into a hip-hop banger renamed “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.,” which he performed at the MTV Video Music Awards.

In 2008 Ronson signed Wale to his and Rich Kleiman's Allido Records and subsequently to its joint venture with Interscope. That year, Wale appeared on The Roots’ single “Rising Up” from their Rising Down album before remixing his own “Nike Boots” track to feature Lil’ Wayne. Most recently, Wale inked a co-management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation and this summer headlined his first tour, which sold out a number of venues.

The second round of the Play-In bracket for VIBE’s Best Rapper Ever competition has come to a close, and the final match-up is now put in place.

According to votes cast between Tuesday and 9 a.m. today at VIBE.com, Wale, and Kid Cudi have advanced to the final round of the Play-In bracket, setting up a match-up between two MCs who call each other friends. Similar to last round’s final vote tally, Wale received the most votes overall (1,643), eliminating Asher Roth, who had the fewest votes (1,194). But the blockbuster matchup between Kid Cudi and Drake was determined by a difference of less than 100 votes. Even as Drake is currently setting the country on fire with his So Far Gone tour, it wasn’t enough to beat out Kid Cudi, whose 1,347 votes beat out Drake’s 1,229.

Much like the real-life NCAA Basketball Tournament, the first round of the Play-In bracket for VIBE’s Best Rapper Ever competition resulted in little to no upsets....

Of the four next generation rappers still standing, Wale received the most votes (536), eliminating Jay Electronica by nearly a four to one margin. Asher Roth received the fewest votes of any of the round one survivors, beating out Bobby Ray (formerly B.o.B.), 442 votes to Ray’s 222.
